Using Packing Gloves for lifting your moving boxes

If you did not hire a mover, then after your done packing boxes you are going to be doing some lifting.  A cheap costing item that will help protect you hands is a basic work glove.  They do not have to be anything fancy, just basic cotton gloves with some sort of ruff grip like material on the front of the palm to help prevent an item from slipping out of your grip.

Some benefits of using gloves for carrying moving boxes are:

  • Help prevent your hands from getting nicks and cuts.
After lifting and carrying your cardboard boxes, your hands will start to get dry and this may result in nicks and cuts.

  • Better grip on when carrying your moving boxes.
Nothing is worse then when you are carrying a box and you feel that your fingers are starting to slip.

  • Keep your hands clean.
Your cardboard boxes can be new, but after putting them into the moving truck you rent, you can rest assure they will get dirty very fast. Don't forget about those dusty and rusty items as well.

  • Keep your hand warm.
Depending on which month you plan on moving, cold weather can have a strong bite on your hands.  So keep your fingers warm and get a good grip on your cardboard boxes.

Were to buy and prices:
Work gloves can cost anywhere from $1.00 - $10.00 depending on the material that it is made of.  You can find work gloves in almost all hardware stores.  I have seen them in Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and Ace Hardware.

Example of work gloves you can use for packing during your move. Gloves for carrying moving boxes
(1st) Leather work gloves. (middle) Cotten work gloves. (last) Gym gloves

Other Options:
If you do not want to buy work gloves, see what you already have in your home that you can use.  Check your garage for a pair of gardening gloves.  Sport gloves or weight lifting gloves are also a possibility.

A word of advise, do not use your expensive skiing or leather gloves because they may get ripped or damaged.  Work gloves are inexpensive, made to use once and then throw out.
