DID YOU KNOW- In 105AD, Chinese court official Ts’ai Lun is given tribute to coming up with paper. The ancient Egyptians used tablets made of papyrus, but the invention Lun came up with was comprised of mulberry bark, hemp, rags and water. He mashed it up into a pulp and dried it in the sun and that is how paper was introduced to the world.

Kraft is German for strong. Kraft paper was first created by German chemist C.F. Dahl in 1879. The first kraft paper mill in the United States was established in Pensalcola, Florida in 1911.

The kraft making process was favorable in many way. The chemicals necessary to dissolve the pulp could be recovered after manufacturing and a great deal of energy was recycled. Also pine trees is suitable for kraft paper and pine is one of the most abundant trees growing in North America.
