Packing Tips for Moving Boxes

More ideas to keep healthy in your new home after moving.

Poisons In The Home

You can find poisons all over the home, these are some helpful ideas to keep you and your family out of harm’s way:

• Keep chemicals where kids can’t find them. If there is a cupboard or cabinet that can be locked, this is ideal.

• Follow instructions. If you use an excess of a chemical it can be dangerous or ineffective.

• If you are applying chemicals in your home, ensure the air is circulating via the windows and fans.

• If you are applying a chemical through a spray bottle, consider spraying the substance into a rag instead of through the air and onto the surface, thereby minimizing air pollution in your home.

• Prior to using chemicals in a room or area, have all the children, pets and toys removed so they are not contaminated with residue. Keep everyone out of the area until it is dry and the odor has left.

• Should you be distracted by something while applying a chemical and need to leave the area, make sure you cover the container and see it remains inaccessible to all children in the home.

• Don’t put chemicals or pesticides in friendly looking containers like a juice bottle or milk container. A kid, or anybody, can mistake this for a food item and drink it.

• Bug spray should not be put on skin that has an abrasion or is irritated. Also don’t spray it on your hands or face. Don’t overdo it with the spray either, too much can be bad for your health.

• Rinse with soap and water anything that goes in your or your child’s mouth often, that includes hands and play items as well as baby bottles and pacifiers.

• Housing built before 1978 may pose a lead hazard. Have it examined to be sure. top of page
