a new home or for your exiciting house.
How’s the Air in the Neighborhood?
Protecting the air in your new home and neighborbood.
• Any non-smoker can tell you, smoke hurts. Give up smoking. Don’t let people smoke in your house. If someone you live with must smoke in the house, make a separate smoking area, that is totally cut off from the rest of the house, put towels in the door cracks and buy air filters. Really you should force them to smoke outside.
I know it sounds dramatic, but even a little bit of smoke can do a tremendous amount of damage.
If you moved into a smoker’s house and want to clean it up, there are industrial products that can literally force the tar out of the walls.
• Buy a couple of air filters for the house you moved into. Ionizers and other new technologies are revolutionizing the way we breathe at home. Dust and bacteria will fester and cause health problems if they are not properly dealt with.
• Set up a system of ventilation. Put a fan in every room by the window. Regularly air the house out and try to use fresh air and fans whenever possible. One breath of that fresh air and you will feel the difference.
• Don’t let dust gather on your furniture. Do regular cleanings, or else you will be living in a musty dustbin.
• Work in your community to enact air quality control measures.
Car pooling, mass transit, and cleaner manufacturing processes are all necessary innovations for our health and prosperity.
• Protect open spaces. This will make your new neighborhood more pleasant looking and feeling. The air you breath will be fresher.
Having a lot of trees in the area creates natural air filters. Protect the trees you have and see if you can plant new ones.
• No more SUV’s! Drive a fuel efficient vehicle or better yet, walk or ride a bike.
The Health of Our Children
The Environmental Protection Agency says children are far more sensitive to environmental hazards then adults. This makes sense after all the human body was not designed polluted, we made it that way. The youth are ill equipped to adjust to a polluted world.
That’s why the National Academy of Sciences has concluded the younger generations need far greater protection from the many environmental threats that face modern society.
Since 1973 more than 70,000 new chemical compounds have been created and used for purposes, commercial, industrial and residential. One must question if these new chemicals are partly responsible for the increase in childhood diseases in America. Since 1973, childhood cancers are up 15%
