Moving blankets are the perfect moving solution for large items that need to be protected but cannot be boxed due to size or format. Large pieces of furniture are a good example, as well as odd-shaped lamps and basically anything that is too large to be bubble wrapped.
Helpful Moving Tips:
Reusing Moving Blankets
Once you’re settled in your new home and things have been unpacked and placed where they belong, you’ll be left with lots of packing material that you need to somehow dispose of. While boxes can be recycled or reused for storage, you may be at a loss about what to do about the moving blankets. If so, here are some suggestions to get you started:
Donate moving blankets to the SPCA or your local animal shelter to be used for bedding or to wrap animals during medical treatment or handling. Homeless shelters may also be open to take them, especially if they have programs where they distribute them out to people living in the streets.
Cut them up and make your own dog bed. You can buy filling at craft stores and adjust the size and firmness to fit your pet’s preference. If you have a puppy, blankets can also be cut down to size and used to housebreak your pet.
If you’re crafty, moving blankets can be turned into pretty much anything, from pillows to quilt backing to rugs for the garage or entryway. Combine the moving blankets with other, more colorful textiles and make a simple tote bag or even a series of small bags to store and carry shoes or personal items.
Give the blankets to a friend or relative who will be moving soon.
Use them to wrap something you plan on mailing through the post office. They are less bulky than bubble wrap so they’re ideal for small packages and mailings, especially if the objects are not extremely fragile.
