The "How To" for packing certain items when moving.

Packing a Stereo System

Packaging & Moving supplies needed:

A. Adhesive packaging Tape (professional packing tape)
B. The Original boxes that stereo came in and bubble wrap or use the Double box technique (one smaller box goes into a larger cardboard box) Plastic peanuts or bubble wrap.

Packing:
-
Prior to boxing all stereo parts be certain the unit is cooled off. Color-coded tape will help you organize wires and cables, so you can easily find the right connections when you unpack.
- Check your unit’s owner’s manual to see if there is any advice regarding transport of the unit. Some stereo or CD players should have their screws tightened to avert internal damage.
- If you are transporting a turntable be sure all the parts are taped down, that includes the platter the record sits on and the arm and arm rest.
- If you have saved your stereo system’s original box that is ideal for the move. If not, try double-boxing it. Double-boxing is when you put a small box inside a larger box, separated by a layer of plastic peanuts or bubble wrap. Pack the stereo in the small box and then in a larger peanut cushioned or bubble wrap box and you will be good to go.
- Don’t cram too many components into one moving box. If possible, use packaging supplies to keep them separated (bubble wrap, crumpled packing paper, cardboard boxes).
- Tape your cardboard box and write “Fragile” on it, so you know to be gentle while moving it. Packing Tip: Don’t write “Stereo” or “Audio” because this will make it an attractive target for theft.
