Packing Paintings and Mirrors

No one wants to start his or her move with seven years bad luck.
Here’s a how to guide for moving and packing mirrors.
And beneath, advice on moving and packing paintings.

Moving supplies needed:

A. Strong adhesive packaging tape
B. Packing paper (or newspaper), bubble wrap and cardboard
C. Flat, frame boxes (picture box), use one box for each item

Packing: Mirrors

- As a precaution, always tape an “X” across the front of the mirror using stretch wrap preferably. Use a few layers to make it sturdy, so in case the mirror breaks while moving, the pieces will stay in place.

- Now, cover mirror in packing paper ( or newspaper) and/or plastic bubble wrap and tape cardboard box pieces on it to form a shield. If there are any gaps, fill those with crumpled paper.

- Now place it into a special flat cardboard packing box, called a frame box (picture boxes) and write “Very Fragile” on it with a magic marker.

Packing:  Paintings

-  If your painting has a glass frame, start the packing process by taping the big “X” across it.
- Fully wrap up the painting in plastic bubble wrap and tape it shut.
- Be sure the cardboard moving box is a bit bigger than your painting. Double boxing your painting is ideal. Double boxing is when you put a small box inside a larger box and cushion it with plastic peanuts or bubble wrap.
- To finish the packing job tape your cardboard boxes with a sturdy adhesive tape seal. Write “Fragile” on your moving boxes with a black magic marker. back to top
