Not your Momma’s Moving Supplies
Tuesday, September 13th, 2011Packing boxes and using moving supplies is kind of a new thing, well at least the packaging supplies part is. Just think about it, when your parents were growing up and moving, they probably had tons of broken and damaged items after there move because they didnt have the packing supply products we have today. Also, mover companies had moving boxes but they didnt have all the advanced moving supplies they have today. Dont believe it? Then take a look at the below time line:
Bubble wrap: This soft cushion moving supply we all love to pop with our fingers was only invented in 1957, the inventor did it by taking 2 shower curtains and sealing them together. A couple years later it became branded by SealedAir corporation in 1960 and was used to help protect IBM computers when packing and shipping.
Packing peanuts: These fun to play with and sometimes a pain in the A** to clean up after you unpack something are also called foam peanuts (because of there shape) only came to be in 1965.
Plastic Wrap: This amazing sticky, well sticky to itself and nothing else product was invented by accident in 1953 by a scientist not intending it to be used for the moving industry. A few years later it was seen as a great way to keep food fresh and became known as Cling wrap.
So next time you use your moving supplies just think about how lucky you are to have such great products like bubble wrap, packing peanuts and stretch wrap that make your packing boxes easier and protecting your stuff so much better. Buying moving supplies is cheap compared to having to fix or replace broken stuff that didnt get packed and protected properly.
