Tips on Using Moving Boxes and Packing Supplies

Q. When packing a television, does it matter if it stands upright or not?

Packing T.V.

A. Television sets are expensive items and taking time in packing them up properly is worth the effort. As a general rule of thumb, a television should always be packed in a cardboard box standing upright. From my research this is because you want the electrical components and mechanisms to stay intact. Although it also depends on the size of the T. V. and if you have the original packing material and cardboard boxes that came with it.

Example: My uncle ordered a 42 inch plasma T. V. and it came shipped in a cardboard box that might have been loaded onto a delivery truck upside down. However, when a T. V. comes from the factory, they are very well packed in foam fitting pads that absorb shock and keep the television somewhat suspended off the ground in the cardboard box.

My advise to you is to simply repackage the television as it was before you opened the cardboard box using all of the packing materials that it came with. If you don't have the original cardboard boxes then read over my other post on Packing Television.

Important Tip: After packing up the Television upright in the cardboard box, using a marker label each side of the box with a large upward arrow and a "fragile T. V. this side up" tag.

Happy Packing,
