Using moving companies for packing
Q. Settlement date on current home is 11-18-05. Settlement on newly constructed home is 11-22-05....tho I cannot determine the TIME.(it could be 9am or 2pm) How/what can I instruct the moving company...as to the time?

A. While if the mover comes later instead of earlier (at 2pm instead of 9am) he will just have to work later in to the night to complete your move if he comes too early you will have wasted your money because he has to wait around until he can begin moving things.

You have to consider the fact that most moving companies will come over in advance to look around and see how many rooms you have that you are moving out of and about how many boxes in each room. This helps them to evaluate about how long the move will take and how much weight they will be carrying in the truck so that they can assign the correct truck to your move. Then they go ahead and give you an evaluation of about how many hours it may take to complete your move and what they will charge you by the hour. Also, they will inform you if there are any separate fees involved for the amount of weight you are moving from one place to the other.
Considering the manner described above in which movers charge their customers it is best to consider doing an early or late afternoon move on the settlement date of the newly constructed home. It might be wise for you to discuss this with the people buying your home from you and see if they are willing to push off the settlement date for your current home to the 22nd of November. If this is not possible then you will have to consider temporary storage either with the moving company, by having them hold your possessions in the truck until the date of the settlement of the new home, or with a storage company (whichever is cheaper). Hopefully though, the new home buyers of your current home will be considerate enough to be willing to change their settlement date to the same date as that of your newly constructed home. top of page Buy your moving boxes now!
