Tips on using moving boxes and packing supplies

Q. How should i pack some very delicate drinking glasses and what packing material to use. Also, how to pack some expensive Italian Ceramic so that it doesn't break (platters, urns, bowls, etc.).

Moving supplies to use: stretch wrap, bubble wrap, cardboard boxes, tape.
Optional supplies: soft towel, plastic bags, marker

Packing Glasses with Moving Supplies packing fraile items in boxes

A. Packing fragile items into boxes takes time and must be done using proper moving supplies. Starting with the delicate drinking glasses, wrap each separately with packing paper. Next, cut about 12 inch peace's of bubble wrap and encircle each glass separately. Before you place the wrapped glasses into your cardboard boxes, make sure and place a soft towel, or a strip or two of bubble wrap on the bottom and along the inside wall of the box. This will help cushion your glasses during transit.

Quick Tip: You can wrap your glasses first in a plastic bag to save from having to wash later.

“Box within a box” technique
A neat trick I have for packing very expensive items is called the “box within a box” technique. You begin by wrapping your items, platters, urns, bowls etc. with multiple pieces of packing paper. Then, package your items separately with bubble wrap. Use adhesive tape to hold the wrapping in place. Next, get some small boxes and put bubble wrap on the inside. Begin to place your platters, bowls etc. into the boxes one at a time and placing a strip of bubble wrap in between each item. Label and tape shut the small boxes. After that, take a larger box and place layers of bubble wrap inside. Afterwards, start placing your smaller boxes inside the larger box. When your done, tape the box shut. To make certain nobody uses the packed box as a chair, label your boxes.

For Example: One time when I moved, I had fine china dishes packed in a box. Needing a brake from carrying boxes, my husband decided to take a breather and have a seat. Unfortunately he picked the wrong box to sit on. Well, it was getting time for a new set of dishes any how. Remember, using a marker label the sides of the boxes with “FRAGILE GLASS” and “this side up” with an upward arrow.

Inside Moving Truck
Just as important as packing these items correctly, placing them inside your moving truck is equally as essential for ensuring them a break free ride. As a general rule of thumb, place these cardboard boxes on the moving truck last. This will ensure you do not place other heavier moving boxes on top of it.

Other info: A convenient thing about the bubble wrap from DirectMovingBoxes.com is that it is perforated for easy separation. This makes cutting pieces easier and faster when wrapping glasses, dishes etc.
