Then go through each room or area individually and make a detailed packing list of what needs to be packed. After you come up with this packing list, you will have a better idea of how much moving boxes and supplies you will need to use. Make note of items that you will have a mover pack. Also, take a look at my helpful general packing guide for moving boxes and supplies.

Moving Box Kits

A lot of companies offer moving boxes and packing supplies in kits. This is probably the best value for your money, as well as helpful in getting a general idea of how many moving boxes you will need when packing. Moving kits are usually broken down into small, medium or large box kits. Also, some are broken down into apartment moving kits, 1,2,3,4 bedroom home kits etc. Simply use the kits as a general guide, but use your best judgement and add moving supplies and boxes if you feel they will be needed.

Remember, cardboard moving boxes are not that expensive so ordering a few extra will not break the bank. Also, if you did order to many cardboard packing boxes, they don't take up much space. Just fold the extra cardboard boxes flat and place in your garage, back of closet or in storage unit.
