Sleeping in cardboard boxes !?!

The other day I was doing some reading online and found an article about a church who took high school students and had them stage being homeless for a night.  The high school students had to sleep in cardboard boxes and eat their food out of a trash can.  Don’t worry, they were aloud to use sleeping bags and the trash can was lined as to keep their food clean.  

The point of the experience was to teach these children to appreciate what they have in life and to understand what some of the less fortunate homeless people have to go through.  I think teaching our youth to appreciate what they have is a great thing.  Also, teaching them to help people that are less fortunate is a greater thing.

Since I work around moving boxes all day, when I am outside of work it is just a reflex I have to notice cardboard boxes.   A sad thing I notice when I travel to places like New York City is all the homeless and that a lot of them sleep in cardboard boxes.  I am not here to preach, but I think making a donation to shelters or giving food, money or even your empty cardboard boxes to a homeless person can make a difference to that person.
